Willow Class is taught by Mrs O’Dell and Mrs Hurrell supported by Mr Smith and Mrs Saunders. We have children in both year 5 and year 6 in Willow and we aim to support children to develop the academic and personal skills necessary for the transition to high school. We encourage children to take on responsibilities within the school and develop their own independent learning. We want all children to develop a love of reading. Children are expected to read daily at home and keep notes in their reading record books. We encourage children to complete the reading challenges and passports. Please remember that children gain such a lot from sharing books or listening to stories read by grown ups at home – even at this end of primary school. Books borrowed from the class library must be returned on a MONDAY to the box in the classroom. Please take books home in a book bag / plastic wallet (widely available in supermarkets/ or plastic bag. Please do not bring large bags into school.
This year, homework will be set using Google Classroom and further details will be available in due course. Homework will comprise of My Maths homework, spellings and some additional reading and writing tasks. If you have problems accessing work through a computer then please let us know and we will make arrangements for your child.
P.E. will be taught on Wednesday and Friday. Children should come to school in p.e. kit on those days. All p.e. will be outside so please make sure that your clothing is warm enough.
There will be no option to borrow kit this year.
We are really looking forward to meeting everyone. If you have any worries you can contact us through the school office email or via the Willow Class email and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
Best wishes Sally O’Dell
